The Cryptid Hierarchy
An insight from The Cryptid Handbook
Author's Note
This is the natural social hierarchy of cryptids in Veil Haven.
This chart helps me keep track of all my cryptids and categorizes how they would interact with each other and humans. It is also how everyone in Veil Haven has come to recognize and categorize the various cryptids of their world
Common: Ghosts, Bigfoot, Six-Eyed Deer. The common category is for cryptids who are just that— common. Like bears, birds, or pets, you can find these cryptids anywhere and in great capacity. They have some power but not enough to warrant outright fear. If you are approaches by a common cryptid, your chances of survival are high.
Semi-Common: Shadow People, Beings of Light, Chupacabras, Night Crawlers. The semi-common category is for cryptids who are common place in Veil Haven but still hold some status of power on the physical level. These are cryptids you will see in the streets and in your homes. If you are approached by a semi-common cryptid, your chances of survival are moderate.
Unique: Skeletal Shifters, Mothmen, Mist Walkers, Not-Deer. The unique category is for cryptids who aren't seen as often and who hold a great power, or sense of power. They can interact with anyone but make the conscious decision on who, how, and why. If you are approached by a unique cryptid, your chances of survival are moderate to slim depending on the circumstance.
Rare: The Boy in the Black River, Mr. Boogle, The Cryptid of Vapor and Flesh. The rare category is for cryptids who are unlike any other and cannot reproduce. They are immortal as far as anyone knows and are extremely powerful. Their abilities can range from omniscience, to manipulating chance/luck, and unique abilities known only to the individual cryptid. They are sentient but disconnected from society and do not often approach humans. If you are approached by a rare cryptid, your chances of survival are slim to none.

Deities: The Forest Eye, The Void. The deity category is for the cryptids with the most power in Veil Haven. They can physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually influence others and their surroundings. They might as well be gods, or depending on who you're getting your information from, they are gods. Regardless, everyone recognizes the very real power of the Void and the Forest Eye. Whether or not they're as real as they actually are is up to debate amongst the townsfolk. The Void is and rules the sky, the weather, and the void outside of Veil Haven. The Forest Eye rules the forests, mountains, and cryptids of Veil Haven.
