Author Fact

The ghosts and shadow people in Veil Haven are inspired from the author's real life experiences. Anne grew up in a haunted house, and has visited many haunted spaces in the North and South.

Character Fact

There used to be a cast of over twenty characters. After cutting various plot lines to condense the story, and instead of destroying all her character work, Anne decided the best course of action was to combine several characters into one. Yona was originally four characters: Joe, Mohe, Brian, and Alison.

Author Fact

Anne is known among her friends as The Halloween Queen. In her childhood, she would solely decorate the entire house, inside and out. Every year she would throw an epic party for her friends (and still does). She would dress as a werewolf and scare trick-or-treaters who came to her house. And as an adult, she leaves Halloween decorations up all year, and she went trick-or-treating well into college. Not to mention she wrote Veil Haven, the person Halloween and Autumn read.

Author Fact

Anne used to work as a scare actor on a fear farm. She was the creature chasing you through the corn maze and jumping onto your tractor ride.

Crafting Veil Haven Fact

Lydia's death originally represented the emotional loss of "breaking up" with a best friend. Then, the author's father passed away. While the scene didn't change, it became elevated based on the author's experience with learning the news her dad had passed and having to visit the morgue. The funeral chapter which ends in the Riverside Cemetery is also an ode to her father's burial.

Crafting Veil Haven Fact

The author has crafted and outlined what she deems "the original trilogy," which is what we are exploring now with Veil Haven as the first installment. She has also crafted what she calls "the prequel books" which are three standalone novels that individually explore the three main elements of Veil Haven: the founding, the cryptids, and The Watchers. Anne is most excited about the latter.
